What is Grade R?

Grade R or Reception year, is the first year of formal schooling in the South African education system and forms part of the Foundation phase. It is a crucial phase that serves as a bridge between early childhood education and primary school. Grade R provides young learners with a structured learning environment while prioritising play-based activities and social development.

Grade R focuses on laying the foundation for future academic success by fostering a love for learning, building essential skills, and promoting social interaction.
